Depok, June 6, 2026 – The presence of the Head of the Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM), Prof. dr. Taruna Ikrar, M.Biomed., Ph.D., at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Indonesia (FFUI) on Friday (5/6) was an important momentum that emphasized the close collaboration between the academic world and national health regulators. On that occasion, Prof. Taruna Ikrar acted as Co-Promoter at the Research Proposal Hearing of the Doctoral Study Program in Pharmaceutical Sciences held in the FFUI Main Meeting Room.
The involvement of the Head of BPOM in the doctoral education process reflects a shared commitment to strengthening pharmaceutical research that can address national health challenges. Synergy between universities and regulators is expected to produce innovations and policy recommendations supported by scientific evidence ( evidence-informed policy ).
The proposal hearing was led by Prof. Dr. apt. Arry Yanuar, M.Si. as Promoter and Chair of the Seminar, with a team of supervisors consisting of Prof. apt. Rani Sauriasari, M.Med.Sci., Ph.D., CertDA as Co-Promoter 1 and Prof. dr. Taruna Ikrar, M.Biomed., Ph.D. as Co-Promoter 2. Meanwhile, the examining team consisting of Prof. Dr. apt. Abdul Mun'im, M.Si., Dr. apt. Atika Wahyu Puspitasari, M.Farm., and Prof. Dr. Dra. Dumilah Ayuningtyas, MARS provided input and evaluation of the presented research proposal.
At the hearing, Mohamad Kashuri, a student of the Pharmacy Science Doctoral Program at FFUI, presented his dissertation proposal entitled "Policy Evaluation and Formulation of a Model for Strengthening the Utilization of Natural Medicines in the Indonesian Health Care System Based on Evidence-Informed Policy ." This research examines strategies for strengthening the policy of utilizing natural medicines in the Indonesian health care system through a scientific evidence-based approach. In addition to pursuing a doctoral degree at FFUI, Mohamad Kashuri also serves as Deputy for Supervision of Traditional Medicines, Health Supplements and Cosmetics at the Indonesian Food and Drug Authority (BPOM).
Following the seminar, the Dean of FFUI, Prof. apt. Silvia Surini, M.Pharm.Sc., Ph.D., along with faculty leaders, discussed various opportunities to strengthen cooperation between FFUI and the BPOM. The meeting discussed the potential for broader collaboration in education, research, drug innovation development, and evidence-based health policy development.
Through this activity, FFUI reaffirmed its role as a strategic partner to the government in the development of pharmaceutical science. The collaboration between academics and regulators is expected to foster high-quality research that will make a significant contribution to strengthening Indonesia's healthcare system.
