Formal education, in this case related to herbs, is still a necessity and obligation for the community to gain recognition both nationally and internationally, especially at the university level. Herbal science was formed to be able to optimally utilize Indonesian medicinal plant resources into herbal medicines as rational complementary/alternatives that are tested for safety, effectiveness, and quality, so that they can be used in the formal treatment/service system as preventive, promotive, curative, and/or rehabilitative as well as health care alongside conventional medicine. In addition, to integrate herbal medicine and the use of herbs in health and beauty care that have clear scientific benchmarks and indicators.

The Herbal Masters Program of the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Indonesia was held starting in September 2010 and was strengthened by the Decree of the Chancellor of the University of Indonesia No. 0148/SK/R/UI/2010, dated February 19, 2010.

Graduate Profile

Graduates of the Master of Herbal (M.Herb) Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Indonesia are able to develop innovative and tested herbal products, recommend their use in solving health problems, and manage research related to raw materials and herbal products that are beneficial to society and science.

Curriculum

The Herbal Master's Program offers two (2) educational pathways: lecture pathway and research pathway. The study period for the Herbal Master's Program for both pathways is scheduled for 4 (four) semesters each and can be completed in a maximum of 6 (six) active semesters. The study load is 40 credits. The Herbal Master's Program consists of compulsory courses and elective courses.
