The department, which was originally located on Jl. Diponegoro, Central Jakarta, was part of a faculty initially known as the Faculty of Exact and Natural Sciences (FIPIA). Based on Presidential Decree No. 44 of 1982, the faculty was subsequently renamed the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA).

The Department of Pharmacy was located behind the Faculty of Economics, University of Indonesia, at Jl. Salemba Raya No. 4, Central Jakarta.

It later occupied a building behind the UI Rectorate Building at Jl. Salemba Raya No. 4, Central Jakarta. In 1987, the Department of Pharmacy moved to Building D of FMIPA UI, together with the Department of Mathematics, at the new campus of the University of Indonesia in Depok.

While occupying Building D, the administrative activities of the Department of Pharmacy were centralized in Building C of FMIPA UI. At the time of the relocation to Depok in 1987, the Department of Pharmacy managed only the Undergraduate Program (Bachelor’s Degree) and the Pharmacist Professional Program, with approximately 200 students and 30 faculty members.

Based on the Decision of the Board of Trustees (MWA) of the University of Indonesia No. 01/SK/MWA-UI/2003 concerning the Articles of Association of the University of Indonesia, the Department of Pharmacy, FMIPA UI, was officially renamed the Department of Pharmacy, FMIPA UI in accordance with the new institutional nomenclature.

Pursuant to the Rector’s Decree of the University of Indonesia No. 2408A/SK/R/2011 concerning the establishment of the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Indonesia, the Department of Pharmacy, FMIPA UI, was officially transformed into the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Indonesia (FF UI).
